Father Dr. Mathew Abraham

Director General, Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI)

Fr. Mathew is a Medical Doctor and a Public Health Professional who chose to become a Catholic Priest to serve the larger society with an undivided heart. He has an MBBS degree from Kottayam Medical College, Kerala, and a post-graduation in Community Medicine, from CMC Vellore. As part of his journey to priesthood, he was also trained in Psychology, Philosophy, Theology and Spirituality. He has been in leadership positions in Catholic Healthcare over a decade, as Health Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) and currently as the Director General of Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), a network made up of 90% religious sisters. He has also been the Chairman of the Technical Resource Group (TRG) instituted by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Government of India. Currently he holds the position of President of the Christian Coalition for Health (CCH) and the Chair of LINC Asia, a pan-Asian Disability Inclusive Network. Fr. Mathew is passionate about promoting compassionate, affordable and quality healthcare, especially for the people at the margins of the society.
